Subitising Pumpkins – Early Years / PS1
This flexible, hands-on maths resource is perfect for Early Years and PS1 learners, whether you’re in a classroom, home setting, or outdoor learning environment. It’s designed to support number recognition, subitising, and early addition through playful, autumn-themed learning that links beautifully with the Welsh Curriculum.
You’ll get:
Three A4 printable sheets for making a total of 10, and three more for making a total of 20. Each set includes blank pumpkins, numbered pumpkins, and number word pumpkins, giving you multiple ways to differentiate and extend learning.
Children can match, order, and combine the pumpkins to explore number bonds and counting patterns, or use them with natural materials to create playful number representations. The resource can be used for independent practice, small group work, or tuff tray invitations to play.
This activity encourages flexible thinking, problem-solving, and confidence with numbers, while supporting both concrete and pictorial stages of mathematical understanding.
Links beautifully with AoLEs:
