I've only done this with a sensible Year 5 class, so I'd use it at your discretion. At the end of our topic of mental subtraction, my children were all quite fast at working out the sums. I set up my class so there was plenty of space between the tables and my desk. I cut up the cards, and had a set for each table. I handed out the top card to each group, they had to work out the 3 answers, race to bring it to me, I'd mark it and give the next one, and so on. Yes it is a bit manic, if you have support staff, use them, but trust me they absolutely love it!!!!!!

Clear set of subtraction cards (3 digit numbers) which could be used as described above, or as examples to work through. Suitable for Years 5 and 6.
