Key Stage 2 teacher Annie Ashraf is challenged to raise her game to see if she can go from ‘good’ to ‘outstanding’.

Top Inspector Clare Gillies assesses one of Annie’s Year 5 Geography lessons at Tetherdown Primary School, Walton-on-the-Naze, and her feedback afterwards highlights some clear areas for improvement.

Annie receives some CPD from primary geography expert Wendy North, and advice from voice and communications expert Ulrika Schulte-Baukloh.

Will Annie make the grade? Will she raise her game sufficiently to go from good to outstanding?

Should this be retitled 'Good to..erm...Good?'

I totally agree with HeidiClare. I don't think an accurate judgement of teacher performance can be made based on a one off lesson particularly when the sequence of learning proved to be engaging beneficial to the students. The inspector does not give Annie explicit examples to improve her teaching. It was nice to see the professional journey of another teacher and a brief sequence of learning in Geography.

An interesting film of the journey a teacher takes with coaching to attempt to get from good to outstanding.

It doesn't seem to go beyond the 'she'd know what an outstanding lesson looks like' comment at the start I thought. The questioning - yes. Open tasks and enquiry for differentiation. Change your tasks. All helpful, but not much else concrete.

I'd love to see the inspector modelling an outstanding lesson. It's easier to be a food critic than a chef.
