We revisit secondary maths teacher Simon Brilliant to find out how well his teaching is progressing and to see if he can deliver an outstanding lesson this time around. In July 2007 we challenged secondary maths teacher Simon Brilliant, who was then in his second year of teaching, to go from being ‘good’ to ‘outstanding’. Top inspector Clare Gillies observed him teaching and suggested areas for improvement. He then received bespoke CPD support in his subject area and some communications coaching, plus a few weeks to put all this advice into practice before Clare returned to see if he had made it. Her verdict then was that Simon was ‘good’ but not quite ‘outstanding’. Now, with nearly 5 years of teaching under his belt, the Inspector is back to see him in action. How will Clare rate his teaching now?

A very useful clip to see what makes an 'outstanding' lesson.
