Polysemic/Polysomic words ,sometimes called Homonyms, are words that can have more than one meaning. One example is the word “date” which can mean a soft fruit of a day in time. Presentation is designed to encourage creative thought/use of language as a starter in an English lesson. The activity has been used in tutor time as an enjoyable “brainstorming/blue-sky thinking” activity. Students are given two statements that seem unrelated but suggest the same word. Students have 12 seconds (embedded timer) to decipher the word that might be common to both statements. Each challenge consists of 5 sets of statements which means each challenge will take little more than 2 minutes to complete. The presentation consists of 38 slides.
