The Arrival Y5/6 English unit 4+ weeks

An English unit based on The Arrival by Shaun Tan. It is written for Year 5/6 and is at least 4 weeks long (you may need to extend some of the lessons depending on the needs of your class).

Here are some of the writing outcomes: Reader’s journal; writing in role (including flashback); setting descriptions for contrasting purposes; writing to inform (an immigrant’s guide, non-chronological report about the setting); informal letter; essay-style response to a question (discussion); first person narrative (class project). It’s a plan and resources, including some model texts. You’ll need at least one copy of the book with pictures scanned to share with children, but almost everything else is included in the unit pack.
