The British Express Phantom synopsis:
Conductor Samwell wants to impress Queen Victoria, who is one of several hundred passengers on the British Express train. Unfortunately, a dense fog has spread across the tracks and the area making it difficult to navigate. Suddenly, Engineer Brantley sees a figure on the tracks waving frantically at the train. The engineer pulls the brakes and thankfully halts the train before it hits the dark figure. Samwell and his crew investigate the area for the stranger, but what they find is truly a remarkable life or death discovery. What was the phantom doing on the tracks and why was it waving at them? Find out in the British Express Phantom readers’ theatre unit!
Do not fear the reader’s theater format. Students love these adapted stories because they are listening to the story and they are a part of the story by playing a character within the story.
Reader’s theatre inspires reluctant readers to join in the fun. The strongest and most advanced readers in your class will encourage other students to raise their hand and participate in the story. I also use reader’s theatre to add to my drama marks.
I hope you, and your students enjoy reading The British Express Phantom and continue to do so for many years.
Excelsior!
