The Colour Monster – Colourful Semantics Sentence Building

A visual Colourful Semantics resource inspired by The Colour Monster by Anna Llenas, designed to support children in EYFS and KS1 with oral language, vocabulary and sentence construction.

The resource uses Colourful Semantics colour coding to help children build simple sentences linked directly to events and emotions within the story:

Who? – orange
Doing? – yellow
What? – green
Where? – blue

Children can select and arrange the visual cards to create sentences about the Colour Monster, the girl, different emotions and key events from the story.

Example sentence structures include:

The Colour Monster is feeling sad.
The girl helps the Colour Monster.
The Colour Monster feels happy.
The Colour Monster puts his feelings in the jars.
The Colour Monster is feeling calm.

A lovely resource for use alongside The Colour Monster during whole-class English, Drawing Club, speech and language activities, SEN interventions or small-group work.

The repetitive visual sentence structures help children develop confidence in speaking in sentences, understanding sentence structure and progressing towards independent writing.

Please note: This is an independently created educational resource designed to be used alongside your own copy of The Colour Monster. The book itself is not included.
