Lit in Colour (Incomplete) Book Lists – Diverse Reading Recommendations for Schools
The (Incomplete) Lit in Colour Book Lists were developed in response to research with the Runnymede Trust, which revealed that many teachers struggle to find books by writers of colour. These curated book lists are designed to help primary and secondary schools expand their reading selections and introduce students to a wider variety of authors and perspectives.
Our book lists are intentionally called “incomplete”, recognising that no list can ever capture every great book or emerging voice. The lists are updated annually to include both new and classic titles, ensuring your reading recommendations stay current and inclusive.
Currently, there are two book lists each for primary and secondary schools, with each list featuring over 100 carefully selected titles from Penguin and other leading publishers. The first lists launched in 2021, with new selections added in 2022.
Key features include
