The (Incomplete) Lit in Colour Book List 2024 Edition: KS2

This book list has been created in response to research with The Runnymede Trust, which found that many teachers struggle to find high-quality books by writers of colour for their classrooms. This essential, annually updated book list is designed to help KS2 teachers diversify their English curriculum and inspire young readers with a broader range of voices.

Our book lists are called “incomplete” because literature is constantly evolving. Each year, we add new and classic titles to reflect the best in children’s publishing, ensuring that teachers and pupils have access to the most relevant and inspiring books available.

Key features of the 2024 KS2 Book List

  • Four comprehensive book lists each for primary and secondary schools, with over 100 titles from Penguin and partner publishers

  • A dedicated Early Years list, supporting inclusive reading from the very start

  • Organised indexes to group books by topic, genre, and subject matter for easy selection

  • Special author recommendation pages featuring illustrator Dapo Adeola and authors Rashmi Sirdeshpande and Nathan Bryon

  • Ideal for classroom reading, library collections, or independent reading recommendations

Whether you’re seeking stories for class study or suggestions to broaden your school library, the Lit in Colour Book List 2024 Edition: KS2 provides a practical resource for discovering inclusive literature and diverse reading.
