Creative Activities for g / o / u / l / f / b
Bring Jolly Phonics Group 3 sounds to life with this collection of creative, practical and playful phonics activities!
The Phonics Idea Book: Group 3 has been designed to complement and enrich your existing Jolly Phonics teaching of the six Group 3 sounds:
/g/ – /o/ – /u/ – /l/ – /f/ – /b/
Rather than replacing your core phonics programme, this resource provides additional opportunities for children to hear, say, explore and practice each sound through hands-on activities, crafts, games, movement, experiments and real-world sound hunts.
What’s included?
For each of the six Group 3 sounds, you will find a selection of ideas to help children revisit and consolidate their phonics learning, including:
• Creative crafts
• Sound hunts and sound detective activities
• Movement and active games
• Simple experiments and investigations
• Hands-on activities
• Nature and outdoor exploration
• Role-play and imaginative learning
• Everyday objects and experiences
• Opportunities to practice saying the target sound
Group 3 Sounds Covered
This book focuses ONLY on Jolly Phonics Group 3:
/g/ – /o/ – /u/ – /l/ – /f/ – /b/
Each sound has its own collection of activities, giving teachers plenty of ideas to dip into while teaching or revising Group 3.
Designed to Complement Jolly Phonics
This resource follows the Jolly Phonics sound order and is intended to be used alongside your existing phonics programme.
Use these activities to provide extra practice after introducing a sound, during revision, as a fun extension activity, or whenever you want to take phonics beyond the worksheet.
Children can explore sounds by looking, listening, speaking, moving, making, creating and discovering. They can also become little sound detectives, searching for Group 3 sounds in the classroom, at home, outdoors and in the world around them.
Flexible and Easy to Use
The activities are deliberately flexible. You can use them exactly as suggested or adapt them to suit your learners, classroom, available materials and teaching style.
Many activities can also be adapted for other phonics sounds, making this more than a collection of one-off activities.
