The Snowflake Key Vocabulary

After reading The Snowflake by Benji Davies, children explore the magical journey of a little snowflake looking for where she belongs. Through this gentle and beautifully illustrated story, children are introduced to rich, seasonal vocabulary and ideas about individuality and belonging.
Using the book as inspiration, children are encouraged to identify and write words linked to the story and the winter theme. Adults introduce and model key vocabulary from the book. Children can begin by writing simple CVC words and, as appropriate, be supported to stretch out and write longer words.
Children can use magnetic letters, white boards, or winter-themed writing frames to build their words, encouraging phoneme segmentation and sound blending.
