Students' vocabulary often lets them down when they are drawing conclusions from graphs. This simple card sort reviews relevant terms and their meanings. It makes a good starter activity, and works well when pairing mixed ability students together.
The two page document here, shows the words matched with their meaning. Simpy print out and cut up to produce the card sort and/ or provide as a copy to glue in student books. The resource is provided in Word to allow for editing.
A quick Google image search will provide you with endless graphs to discuss with your students. Less able students can use the cards as labels to place onto print outs of the graphs. More able students can use the vocabulary from the cards to describe the relationship shown on each graph.
An extension activity, would be to ask students to draw their own sketch graphs.
This activity is relevant for KS2 & KS3 maths and science.
