A set of questions to practise working backwards from a volume to find a missing length in cuboids, cylinders, pyramids, cones and spheres. The volume is fixed each time at 1 litre, allowing pupils to focus on the process of reversing the operations.

Inspired by variation theory, keeping as much as possible fixed focussed attention on the on the effect of changing only one element. Each question is related to a previous one, and pupils should be encouraged to predict what each new answer might be before computing, leading to discussion and further thinking if the predictions are not realised.

Answers are included.
