A PowerPoint of questions designed to make pupils think, based on Ian Gilbert's Little Book of Thunks. Have created this with background & graphics to specifically appeal to Upper Primary children - used successfully with P5-P7.
What a great idea! I have not used this resource yet but am planning to do so. However, I will adapt some of the questions to make them more relevant to adult ESOL learners. Will post feedback once I have used it. Thank you for sharing!

Alternatively, why not use the tasks and questions as pre-planned extension activities? Simply drop them into your existing lessons and be certain that you are consistently differentiating for the most able.
However you choose to use it, you can guarantee that the GCSE Business Studies Stretch and Challenge Generator will make pushing the thinking of your students easier than ever before. High challenge, great progress and big thinking will be a feature of every lesson you teach!
The task is to design a brand new zoo thinking about
different animals needing different amounts of space, the children have to calculate costs and profit. They are not given a budget but the more species they have the more money they earn.
I have included a fact sheet: containing 7 pages that include the species of animals the space they need and some tables to record their calculations, an editable Smart Notebook resource to start the project and a squared paper sheet (best printed on A3) to try and calculate the perimeter - if they share the perimeters it reduces the cost of the fencing.
This took my class 4 maths lessons with a 5th sharing their designs and budget. They loved it - probably because we approached it as a design competition.
Similar to BBC4's Only Connect - challenges pupils to group 16 words into 4 categories within a 5 minute time limit, with a few red herrings thrown in to confuse things.
My P7s find it extremely challenging because it requires a bit of thought on their part. But then, anything that makes them think...............
A PowerPoint that gives pupils thinking challenges. Based on Tony Ryan's '20 Thinker's Keys'. Untried woth P4, so possibly a bit hopeful there, but quite successful with P5 and above. May come in handy as an end of term activity.
Have been using these in paper format for a few years & decided to upgrade to PowerPoint é start using them on a Smartboard. All the questions are ‘tried é tested’, so nothing new. I have used them with P6/P7, but they could be appropriate, if challenging, for P5 - especially the lower rated questions.
Most students will find revision boring - this is mainly because they think staring at the page will do!!! Unfortunately, as much as I stare at the kettle, the cup of tea does not just magically materialise in my hands!!
I find this strategy is useful for an active and creative approach to homework. Please model with students by challenging them to memorise a sentence, make it longer and longer each lesson... they get seriously involved!!!! Examples in French and Spanish but concept is applicable to any language.
These flashcards can be useful as a bookmark for students (cut in half, fold, paste) or as a set 4 flashcards (perhaps joined by a tag) that can be handed out at the beginning of each lesson and collected at the end. They will enable students to use TL when communicating with teacher and also with each other when doing pair work or games. Enjoy!
