This resource includes two creative writing tasks centered on the theme of place. Each task offers a narrative prompt and TWO questions - one requirung them to create their own imaginative piece inspired by the thematic focus and literary techniques evident within the prompt provided, and one requiring them to analytically explain their creative choices in crafting their imaginative piece.
This task encourages students to demonstrate their understanding of concepts of connection and belonging to a particular location through the application of varied literary devices utilised in the mentor texts provided by the prompts.
This can serve as a guided class activity or as an assessment task. There are two separate activities so that teachers who want to use this as an assessed task can also have an in-build practice test included.
I have successfully used this over the course of 3-4 lessons, splitting the task up to use the first task as a guided reading and planning activity over the course of at least two lessons, and then using the second question as a practice timed test.
I hope you find this resource useful with your own students!
