Following closely along with the AQA GCSE physics book, this lesson PowerPoint and worksheets cover chapter 11.4: Upthrust and Floatation.

The lesson objectives are:

  • What is meant by upthrust on an object in a fluid
  • What causes an upthrust
  • What the pressure in a fluid depends on
  • How to explain whether an object in a fluid floats or sinks

This PowerPoint also goes through the whole derivation for Archimedes’ principle, so there is a lot of algebra and simultaneous equations, designed for a triple physics set. The answers at the end of the PowerPoint refer to the summary questions on page 169 in the book. The worksheet also has answers.
