This is a lesson I used myself to teach the Using Genome Projects concept of the Control of Gene Expression unit, unit 8. - A level Biology, AQA specification.

Learning objective: To explain how genome sequencing projects, including the Human Genome Project, have advanced our understanding of gene structure, expression, and protein diversity.

By the end of the lesson learners should be able to:

Success criteria:

SC1: Describe the aims and outcomes of the Human Genome Project, including how reference genomes are constructed.

SC2: Explain how the proteome is more complex than the genome, highlighting roles of alternative splicing and post-translational modification.

SC3: Evaluate how non-coding DNA and regulatory genes influence gene expression and organism complexity.

Contains past paper questions that target this topic, some questions require knowledge from prior lessons. The mark scheme is also included to verify answers.

Powerpoint contains 12 slides and 6 past paper questions.
