The word document needs to be printed off (one sheet is enough for two students). Then get the students to cut up the rectangles, as carefully as possible.

Then slowly work through the PowerPoint. I used it with my Year 7 nurture group and we looked at a slide a lesson. The students use the rectangles to visualise maths; they start with comparing sizes which introduces inequalities, and moves onto numbers and algebra.

The possibilities are endless, I have not yet included how to introduce fractions but can update the resource when I do.

The nurture group made so much more progress using these number rectangles than they would have if they did not have a visual way of looking at the problems.
