1+HOUR LESSON-READY TO TEACH-PRINTING INCLUDED IN THE PP

Dear Colleague,

Was Stresemann the saviour of the Weimar Republic — or did he simply stabilise Germany temporarily before a greater collapse? This is the eight lesson of a unit on Weimar republic. It challenges students to evaluate the real impact of Stresemann’s policies between 1923 and 1929.

Students begin by securing their understanding of the economic situation in Germany by 1923, then move on to analyse Stresemann’s key policies evaluating both strengths and limitations. The final two tasks push students to apply their knowledge in exam-style conditions by producing both a structured 4-mark explanation and a developed 20-mark GCSE-style answer assessing the overall impact of Stresemann. The lesson could take longer than an hour but task four can be taken out and given as homework if running out of time.

The lesson follows a clear, coherent structure so students always understand where they are in their learning journey. Learning Objectives are:

To understand the economic situation of Germany by 1923.
To evaluate the impact of Stresemann’s policies.
To create a 4-mark and a 20-mark answer explaining the impact of Stresemann.

The lesson is fully prepared as a slideshow and includes structured exam guidance, scaffolding where needed, and stretch opportunities for higher ability students. It works perfectly as part of a Weimar Germany unit or as a standalone exam-practice lesson.
