The lesson focuses on the problems William faced after Hastings and which problems he should deal with first.

Students begin with card sort - Cut out the 8 CHALLENGES facing William.
They then arrange them into SHORT and LONG TERM challenges.
Finally - decide which challenges are NOT important! (Red Herrings)

I then have students explain their topic choice of problem William should solve.

I have a homework task included at the end - There is unrest in the North of England and YOU want to lead a REBELLION against the Norman invaders.

Write a 1-2 minute speech to INSPIRE your fellow villagers into rebellion.
