This 5-week unit is designed for upper primary (Year 5/6) students and uses R.J. Palacio’s Wonder as a springboard to explore themes of empathy, diversity, and inclusion. Analyse characters and events to explore perspectives and experiences
Engage in role-play, hot-seating, and debate to deepen understanding
Develop writing skills by creating reflections, letters, and persuasive pieces
Collaborate on a final project: designing a poster, guide, or presentation on inclusive education
This unit is fully adaptable for international or mainstream classrooms and encourages critical thinking, empathy, and student voice. It’s ready to use and provides detailed lesson plans, resources, and suggested assessment outcomes.
