Wonder Unit of Work

This 5-week unit is designed for upper primary (Year 5/6) students and uses R.J. Palacio’s Wonder as a springboard to explore themes of empathy, diversity, and inclusion. Students engage in reading, discussion, drama, and creative writing activities that build understanding of what an inclusive classroom and school community looks like.

Throughout the unit, students will:

Analyse characters and events to explore perspectives and experiences

Engage in role-play, hot-seating, and debate to deepen understanding

Develop writing skills by creating reflections, letters, and persuasive pieces

Collaborate on a final project: designing a poster, guide, or presentation on inclusive education
