If you’re writing about walking through the forest for a picnic, don’t start with making the sandwiches...

This is a collection of writing strategies so that children become Level 5 writers.
It starts with basic KS1 strategies from building sentences pictorially then Initial letter followed by ‘magic line’, to putting together complete words in order. Then, the children complete sentence grids with wh- questions as prompts ( eg When? who? where? what? )
The strategies become more complex and whole as the children become more mature and proficient at using their writing skills.
There are ideas and activities to teach different sentence openers, sentence structure, variation of verb tense and verb forms, variation in length, structure and subject, punctuation effects, how to create a character, a setting, how to develop a plot, and more.
