This resource is designed to help pupils organise past events chronologically, to develop the ability to assess the significance of past events and also to practice writing about past events in a structured manner.

Students are encouraged to select events from their own life that they consider to be significant and to suggest reasons why they are significant. They then organise those events chronologically on a timeline - they should measure the line to make sure it is drawn to scale. They then use the timeline to help them write a short autobiography. There is a powerpoint that helps structure these pages and worksheets to help create the timeline and the autobiography.

All resources are simple enough to be used by a non-specialist or a supply teacher, and can be easily adapted to make them easier or more difficult - they could also be adapted to fit with the assessment system used in your school. I typically use this lesson early in KS3 to assess the ability of students to write about the past.
