This is a set of colour-coded common exception word flashcards that that includes both the Year 1 and Year 2 words. They could be used as a teaching tool at home or at school, or use them as a permanent spelling display as I do in my classroom.
I have designed them to be low-cognitive load, whilst highlighting the ‘tricky’ part (as taught by Little Wandle Letters & Sounds), and if displayed in groups of colour-coding, will enable children to spot spelling patterns that transfer between similar words.
