Year 2 Bigger Numbers

This chapter teaches pupils to add and subtract two-digit numbers by splitting each number into tens and ones, working out each part separately, then joining the answers back together (for example, 34 + 23 becomes 30+20 and 4+3, joined to make 57). It also covers jumping in tens along a number line for quick mental addition and subtraction.

Includes a worked explanation with visual block models, a tips and common-mistakes section addressing the errors children typically make with this method, and 30 practice questions split into three sections: warm up, getting stronger and challenge, moving from straightforward sums to worded reasoning problems.
