TWO RESPONSE OPTIONS

The supported option includes vocabulary choices and prompts to help pupils answer.

The open-response option lets pupils answer without these choices and hints.

The same passage appears in both options. The response support changes, not the reading difficulty.

HOW TO USE

Use for guided reading, small-group discussion or short comprehension sessions. Encourage pupils to return to the passage, find relevant information and explain their answers.

Teacher answer guidance is included. Accept alternative answers where they are supported by the text.

SUITABILITY

Designed for Year 2 / KS1, particularly ages 6–7. These are not phonics-controlled decodable passages. Read aloud or use guided reading support where needed.

Printable PDF with A4 pages and UK English. The PDF is not editable. No external book or software subscription is needed.
