Year 3/4 LKS2 Whole-Class Reading Planning - Environment Theme

A week of whole class reading planning for Years 3 and 4 around the theme of environment! The planning uses extracts from 3 fantastic books;
• The Promise (picture book)
• Cookie and the Most Annoying Girl in the World
• Song of the Dolphin Boy

The planning consists of a 24 page PPT with 5 days of reading work.
Monday is focused on your class novel and has a starter activity based on the front covers of the books we will be looking at this week which involves 4 questions using the Retrieve, Infer and Predict skills. Friday’s lesson should be an at-distance comprehension which you will need to resource yourself.

Days Tuesday to Thursday are all based on one of the extracts and follow the same pattern.
Each lesson begins with an exploration of new vocabulary that children will be exposed to in that lesson.
This is followed by a section called Rapid Retrieval which is a selection of retrieval questions based on the day’s reading.
From there there are a range of more challenging questions (based on the KS2 reading content domains) for children to explore together and individually.

You do not need to own copies of the book as links are provided for the necessary extracts.
