This pack of Science activities, aligned to the New Science National Curriculum 2014, is ideal for supporting teaching of Year 4 States of Matter unit focusing on solids, liquids and gases and changes of state. Included are six activities:

-Sort it!
Students sort the 12 materials cards into solids, liquids and gases. Answers included.

-Investigate it!
Students investigate how temperature affects the rate of ice cubes melting.

-Describe it!
Students think of an example of each state of matter. They describe the properties of solids, liquids and gases. Sample answers included.

-Explain it!
Students describe the role of evaporation and condensation in the water cycle. Sample answers included.

-Change it!
Students describe the change of state in each photograph. These are; clothes drying on a washing line, ice cream melting, icicles forming and condensation forming on a window. Sample answers included.

-Order it!
In this activity students research the melting point of various materials. They record the melting points and then order the materials along the image of a thermometer from highest melting point to lowest. Answers included in both degrees Celsius and degrees Fahrenheit.

Included are detailed, clear instructions on how to set up the activities and the additional equipment needed for 'Investigate it!'. Also included is a KWL (what I know already, what I would like to know and what I learnt [UKS version also included - what I learned]) for students to complete prior and after the unit.
