I am a huge advocate of the whole-class reading concept and its benefits. As a result, this scheme is planned around this idea. Lessons focus on one to two skills maximum per lesson - this gives children the opportunity to learn how to improve their work in this skill/area and maximise marks in reading tests later.
These lessons have been meticulously planned so that children engage with the of Land of Roar while learning about summary/retrieval/inference/explanation skills. The lessons contain advice on how to answer these sorts of questions.
These resources will help children prepare for SATS-style questions as some of chapters include specific guidance/SATS-style questions.
Each lesson is available separately if you want a closer look and includes: a PPT presentation leading through the lesson with modelling, reading material, and independent activities/answers. The only chapters that don’t have explicit teaching/a lesson are chapters 20-21, as I couldn’t fit them in the bundle! However, there is a separate lesson for this available for purchase if necessary.
EVERYTHING you need to teach these lessons is included and good to go apart from an audiobook/copy of reading material (for copyright purposes). To be honest though, you just need a copy of the book for reading to the class - most activities have quotes/texts included in the worksheets etc.
Please note, I take texts choices incredibly seriously and can confirm this book has been ADORED by the year 5 and 6 classes I have taught. I also believe it would be good to use with a year 7 class.
If you like this bundle, please review.
