In this unit of work, pupils will learn a variety of stylistic devices which will enable them to write their own suspense story. Pupils work through a variety of lessons where they analyse, practice skills, plan and draft a short piece of narrative work.

The lesson breakdown and resources are as follows:

Reading comprehension based on the WAGOLL provided and to be covered first before writing lessons.

Writing:
Lesson 1: Analyse stylistic features of a suspense based text (criteria provided)
Lesson 2: Explore powerful vocabulary
Lesson 3: Explore figurative language
Lesson 4: Planning (planning template provided, teacher to model their own versions across an appropriate amount of lessons) before pupils draft.

All PowerPoints also have some starter activities where pupils punctuate short extracts (Let’s Punctuate) and improve basic sentences (Let’s Up-level).

Thank you.
