Year 5/6 Writing for a Purpose: P.I.E Booster Bundle

This Year 5/6 writing booster or intervention set contains materials for 25 sessions linked to three key writing purposes: persuasion, information and entertainment (P.I.E)

Comprises five different lesson packs which consist of carefully structured sessions focused on the following:

• Persuasion (1 lesson pack): Students compose a persuasive letter intended to prevent the closure of a park.
• Information (1 lesson pack): Students produce a concise animal report.
• Entertainment (3 lesson packs): Students enhance their ability to write engaging narratives, including crafting character and setting descriptions as well as dialogue.

Who is it for?
This resource supports pupils who are working towards age-related standards by helping them practise writing and understand its process. It is suitable for groups, classes, or individuals.

Objectives:

Provides the opportunity for pupils to practise writing effectively for a range of purposes and audiences, selecting language that shows good awareness of the reader

Timing:
Contains five learning sequences each made up of five sessions which are 20-30 minutes in duration – 25 lessons in total.

If used as an intervention, the resource would last for a whole term doing twice weekly lessons. Alternatively, if done as a short burst daily intervention it would last approximately one half term.

3. Draft the first version
4. Revise and edit
5. Share and receive feedback
