This Year 6 newspaper is written to the Greater Depth standard, though could be used as a whole class WAGOLL to stretch children’s sentence structure and vocabulary use.

The newspaper article is based on Literacy Shed’s ‘Alma’, and reports on the concerns of the families and children remaining in the town, after the disappearances of almost two dozen children.

Also included is a Word Bank, giving phrases to describe the event, the children’s reaction, the townsfolk’s reaction and the police.

The WAGOLL focuses on

  • direct speech
  • reported speech
  • appropriate selection of formality (shifting during quotes)
  • sensationalised language (emotive)
