30 sentence-level worksheets with teachers’ notes, additional teacher-led starter plans and two appendix sheets in an 85-page PDF for Year 7 English.
Short activities cover sentence construction and punctuation, paragraphing and cohesion, non-fiction conventions, Standard English and language variation. Topics include expanding noun phrases, tenses, active and passive voice, clauses, speech marks, connections between ideas, instructions and formal or informal language.
Plans identify outcomes, preparation, timing, grouping and teaching approaches, with extension work where relevant. Some starters need no pupil worksheet and can be delivered using a board. Appendix sheets provide a recording grid and support for the clause activity.
Designed for roughly 10–15-minute lesson openings, with some worksheets offering enough material for several sessions. Use with Year 7 students of varied abilities; individual whiteboards or paper can support responses.
This is the original 2002 publication, organised around the historical National Literacy Strategy Framework. Its objective references are retained without a claim of current curriculum alignment.
