      Very functional! :)

    • A PowerPoint I made to take my Year 10s through the new GCSE topic on Functions. Starts with simple function notation and substitution, before moving on to composite functions - both numeric and algebraic - and finishing with inverse functions.

Also included are two codebreakers for the substitution elements that lead to a funny joke. I also created a Tarsia for the inverse functions element, but sadly can't upload that to TES. Instead, you can download it here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B_raar3XGLkMVVhRdFZvUDJQNk0/view?usp=sharing (ignore the weird preview it gives you - just download it and it's fine).

Thanks - great for my Set 2 11s, who could do the work but had to stop and think too. Like having to do my own answers as I can guage how long it takes to complete and where the students will go wrong!

    • These 4 powerpoints have been made for the Cambridge IGCSE course and cover the section on functions. Pupils learn about function notation and what it means, and see how to approach problems involving composite and inverse functions. The textbook has the relevant exercises! If you like this resource then please check out my other stuff on here! :)

Can't work out how to message you directly on here but this, along with the rest of your resources is fantastic. Wouldn't be able to teach A Level as easily without your ppts, no idea how you find the time to put all of this together but thank you.

      Fantastic, thank you so much!

    • Eight matching activities that encourage discussion in class involving substituting into functions, inverses and composite functions. These would work as a starter/plenary or as a revision lesson on function notation.

    • A SMART Notebook file for introducing top end students to basic function notation. It also touches on the concept of one-to-one functions, many to one-functions, and non-functions. Includes STUDENT PowerPoint to be printed 2 to a slide for the final activity. Any feedback is greatly appreciated!

Brilliant way of going about this confusing concept. Great pictorial exercises.Thank you.

    Practice questions, homeworks and assessments

    • Practice on the function notation (new to GCSE!) involving substituting into a function and finding the value of x given what f(x) equals. This also involves composite functions. This should hopefully encourage your class to talk about their answers and understanding of the topic. Now includes an extra "find the inverse" slide!

Great starter task for my Scottish Higher pupils on function notation - which is only touched on at National 5

    • New on the GCSE syllabus, Clive is struggling with function notation icluding inverse and composite functions. Can your students check, correct and explain what Clive has done wrong in the four questions? This should encourage discussion.
