    Rearranging formulae

    Lesson presentations and activities

    • These two powerpoints go through the basics of changing the subject of an equation or formula. The first includes just simple linear rearrangement, and the second includes example of factorising and dealing with roots and fractions. Nothing especially exciting, just trying to be as clear as possible!

    • Eight matching activities, getting increasingly difficult, on various different formulae to rearrange. These are designed as plenaries or starters and should encourage discussion.

    • I am about to tackle rearranging formulae (a topic so many find difficult) with my Year 10 class so came up with this in an attempt to make them more comfortable with playing with algebra; it should also encourage discussion about different ways of doing it.

Thank you for publishing your resource. It has been selected to be featured in a new secondary maths collection.

    • Clive is still struggling to get his homework right, this time rearranging formulae being the issue. Your task, or more likely, your students' task (should they choose to accept it) is to check, correct and explain where Clive has gone wrong. Designed to create discussion in class and to check understanding.
