This resource is a non-fiction comprehension activity for year 2. It is all about dinosaurs! There are 3 differentiated levels. There are a range of ‘what,’ ‘how,’ and ‘why’ questions, some multiple choice tick questions and some that require more detailed answers. The higher and middle ability booklets each have five pages of pictures with short written extracts to read and 4 questions per page. The lower ability booklet has five pages of pictures with simpler passages and 3-4 questions per page. Answers are also included. Mary Anning was one of the world’s greatest fossil hunters. Despite her humble background, she was a pioneer, although she didn’t receive the credit for her achievements that she deserved. Introduce your class to this remarkable British palaeontologist with this 19-slide PowerPoint detailing her life with facts and images. It outlines her major discoveries including ichthyosaurs, plesiosaurs, winged reptiles, and fossil poop! The presentation ends with some discussion questions. This presentation would complement a rocks and fossils earth science unit, or support learning about women in science (e.g. for International Day of Women and Girls in Science). Teach the stages of fossilisation at KS2 with this folding ammonite craft and sequecing cards. Ammonites were pre-historic sea creatures with tentacles and a spiral shell. Their fossils can be found all over the world in many different types of sedimentary rock! These activities are designed to complement the KS2 science curriculum and is a fun alternative to a standard fossils worksheet. They are all based on the reading SATs paper, containing a similar style of questions. There are a range of ‘what,’ ‘how,’ and ‘why’ questions, some multiple choice tick questions and some that require more detailed answers. They are also laid out in the same way as a SATs booklet to provide the children with greater experience. Each booklet contains a title page with helpful words followed by 4 or 5 pages of text with several questions after each piece of information. All of the booklets are in zip files.
