This is a homework task which will help students to apply the conventions of print advertising to their study of the set products and develop their analytical skills. As it is an older example, the Milk Tray advert will also help students to revise historical and social contexts relevant to the set Quality Street product. This worksheet is for WJEC Textiles (D&T) (a) Natural, synthetic, blended and mixed fibres The categorisation and working properties of fibres and textiles. The raw materials of textiles are classified according to their source. Natural polymers Animal polymers: wool/fleece – mohair, cashmere, angora, alpaca, camel (hair), llama. Insect polymers: silk. Plant polymers: cotton, linen, hemp, jute, bamboo, soya. Manufactured polymers Synthetic: acrylic, polyester, polypropylene, nylon (polyamide), elastane, Lycra, aramid fibres. I was asked by a Science teacher to create some Global Warming posters for a display board / lunchtime club. Being a Design Technology teacher I have no use for them so thought I would share the resource for FREE. Hope they save a fellow teacher some time and are useful.

Honestly these are nothing amazing but I thought I would share. To support students with the Unit 1 exam H&C I have been creating mini mock exam papers (lifted from past papers) to test knowledge. They’re great for a lengthy starter activity or for use in a double theory lesson. Then using the answer presentation the students peer assess each others papers and write the marks on the front. I then test again a few weeks later and share the paper via google classroom. I’ve found it’s a good way to monitor progress and introduce them to exam style questions. When printing, print double sided but flip the edge of the second page (otherwise it’s upside down) and fold in half.

This quiz can be a quick starter, mini or plenary activity for Year 9 or Year 10. It can be done on a scrap piece of paper whereby the students just answer A,B,C or more formally where it is written up and printed for them to complete. Students can then self/peer assess. The quiz is linked to requirement of the National Curriculum KS3 in Art and Design. The quiz is specifically designed at addressing the section which deals with understanding, evaluating and analysing creative artworks using language and terms of art, craft and design. Helping students understand the language of art at KS3 will be very beneficial to GCSE and A level. It will not only enable them to talk confidently about their own work and the techniques and materials they have used, but will also allow them to critically evaluate the work of other artists using appropriate terminology. This ‘vocabulary of art’ will grow and develop over time, as students learn about new and unfamiliar media and techniques, practice applying them to their own work and recognise structures and techniques in the art they encounter in their studies. The wider and more proficient their vocabulary in this area, the better-equipped they will be to annotate sketchbooks, critique their own work and that of others and, ultimately, talk with confidence about their inspirations and opinions of art work.

A worksheet that could be used for cover or an extension task on safety rules in the Food Technology Room.

A great resource if you need a quick cover lesson for Art at KS3. The power-point is only basic but it can be further developed. The aim of the lesson is for students to design a shield to be hung at Cardiff Castle. They have a ‘live’ fake brief whereby their shield needs to represent Welsh Culture and Identity. I created the shield on photoshop. There are x3 versions for the students to select from and I got these printed onto A4 or A3 cartridge. For a cover lesson you may just want to print it on normal paper. At KS3 students already have a welsh culture and identity project so I have attached the visual aids which support students. They also look at a range of illustrators such as Quinton Blake etc. Students use fine liners and colouring pencils to create their illustrations.

Year 8 are doing a Cacti sculpture project. I have created this visual aid for their exploration task whilst exploring the various shapes and forms.

This will sound so random but here we go. I have a lady who supports my lessons who is an ex science teacher. She is also a member of the womens institute and quite often asks me to create her Science posters for her WI events. Rather than me deleting them I thought I would upload as they may come in useful for Science as a classroom poster etc.

A Sonia Delaunay worksheet which I have created as a homework task for my KS3 Year 7 class. This can also be used for a cover lesson for KS3 Art or Textiles to support the use of colour. Students first analyse the two images above and then use blending/rendering to apply colour to the composition using warm/cool colours,
