19th/21st Century Context Group Activity

(0)
A range of questions based on topics such as education, the role of man/woman, family life, transport, careers, politics and more. Great as an introductory activity/lesson where pupils can understand how key factors within society have changed in order to develop a better understanding of 19th/21st century texts; making the resources more accessible. I continued with allowing them to research in more depth for homework and in groups, they then presented the key topics to the class as a speaking and listening activity.

Christmas themed lesson- persuasive skills!

(0)
A Christmas themed lesson that could suit either KS3-4. Pupils will be asked to focus on a new brand of advent calendar, like the many toy alternatives that are out there now compared with the traditional chocolate one. Pupils could work in groups or pairs but will watch adverts to consider slogans, logos, products etc from a range of famous brands. They will then spend time working on adverts, slogans, product name and look. Pupils will move on to analysing persuasive speeches- watching good and bad examples before creating their own. There is a modelled example that they will analyse before creating (this could be tailored to trasactional writing for GCSE if required). Pupils will then have time to present all of their information to vote for winners at the end.

Some answers will then be given. A great starter, plenary or introduction to language devices to check their understanding so far. Suitable for KS3 or KS4 as the difficulty ranges as the slides develop.
