Tudors: Make Me a Monarch! (Persuasive Writing)

(0)
This lesson requires the pupils to fill in an application form to become a Tudor Monarch. The planning and task-setting powerpoint are included, and give examples of interests and skills of the monarchs, as well as a few instruments and sports of the time. I taught this lesson to a mixed 3/4 class during History, but after they had already looked at persuasive writing. This isn't essential, but there are a list of logical connectives for the more able children to use. Thanks for looking! Ancient Greeks Recount Writing (Dionysus or Ariadne)

(0)
This lesson can be used in either English or Topic when learning about Ancient Greece or myths. Once children have learned about Theseus and the Minotaur, this lesson guides the children through what happened next using weblinks for Mr Donn. The children write a recount from either the perspective of Dionysus (and the pirates) or Ariadne (being deserted on the island) up to when Dionysus finds Ariadne and asks her to marry him. Persuasive writing lesson animal adoption

(0)
This worksheet is for the children to create a piece of persuasive writing to adopt an animal. Our topic was related to lions and so the children were encouraged to choose a wild cat after looking at a few animal adoption charity pages. However, any animal could be chosen. The planning is included but the powerpoint gives an example of an animal adoption charity page and explains the worksheet. Thanks for looking! The Butterfly Lion Glossary

(0)
A fun way to introduce pupils to the unfamiliar words found in The Butterfly Lion. Children can vote on which meaning they think suits the word when it comes up in the story. Words include, among others, chilblains, vaulted, veld, kopje and plaintive. Thanks for looking! Zoo Discussion Text Lesson and Planning Frame

Zoo Discussion Text Lesson and Planning Frame

(0)
A very detailed planning frame for a discussion text on zoos. I used this to discuss ideas as a whole class and then gave to my lower ability children to help them choose sentences for their final piece. I used this for a Y4 class but I think it could be used for older children also. Differentiated plan for the lesson also included with objectives from the Year 4 English curriculum 2014. Design Technology Research and Design Project: Sandwich Boxes

Design Technology Research and Design Project: Sandwich Boxes

(0)
A four-lesson unit (although lesson 3 where the children create their boxes took two lessons!) to research, design, create and evaluate their sandwich boxes. The final box design itself is as the resource file picture shows, not triangular, but contains photographic steps for the children to follow. I used this lesson unit with a mixed Year 3/4 class (who got very into it), but have made these boxes with Year 5 before as well. This unit does not include actually making the sandwiches, but that could be included also. Thanks for looking! Year 4 Maths Starters or Extension Plenaries 2014 Curriculum

(0)
A powerpoint of 26 Maths starters or extension plenaries for Year 4. This was made for a class of bright children and so the work is challenging. My lowest ability group had other work to complete during this time and may need adapting if using for a whole class. The starters are matched to the 2014 curriculum objectives. Thanks for looking! Ancient Greeks Non-Fiction Revision

4 Resources
These are the resources I used at the end of the year in my Topic lessons to revise non-fiction text types before the tests. Make sure the persuasion text lesson is taught before the recount lesson. If looking for inspiration, for discussion texts I asked the children to write about whether it was better to grow up in Athens or Sparta, but I used a resource by someone else. Thanks for looking! Symmetry - Differentiated Patterns

I used these worksheets in Year 4 and the children moved through them at their own pace during the lesson starting with the first sheet. The third activity is quite difficult (two examples in the picture) so even the most able might need to start with the second sheet first. The last sheet is just blank for the children to fill in for each other in pairs if they've blasted through the other three! Thanks for looking! James and The Giant Peach- Depicting emotions through actions

(0)
This resource helps children to understand how the author uses actions to describe how a character is feeling. Using four short quotes from Roald Dahl's James and the Giant Peach, children can draw a face depicting the feeling in the box and then think about how the character might move if they feel this way. Instruction Text Writing: Olympic Torch

This powerpoint guides children through writing their own instructions. First, there is a list of features, then the class use these features to text mark the example (How to make a paper plate mask). Children are then given a few minutes to make their own Olympic torches before they write instructions for them. The lesson concludes with text-marking an example. Thanks for looking! The worksheet has been differentiated three ways. Thanks for looking! Please have a peak at my other items for sale in my TES shop :) https://www.tes.com/teaching-resources/shop/HanMade

Discussion Writing Uniform or Free Choice

Children think about whether they would rather wear uniform or their home clothes to school in this lesson. After thinking of reasons for each side of the argument the Powerpoint guides the children through writing a discussion text on the subject. Planning using objectives from the Year 4 English Curriculum included. Thanks for looking! Problem Solving Maths Day

Problem Solving Maths Day

(0)
This activity was used for a Key Stage 2 Problem Solving day. The clues were printed and laminated and hidden all over the school. The children had to find the clues, answer the question (in mixed year group teams) and use their answers to work out the letters (the answer is 'If you can solve this you can have one housepoint each'). Some of the questions are quite difficult to challenge the Year 6s. Thanks for looking! Instruction Writing to make a Card or Paper Box (DT links)

This lesson requires the children to put photographs in order of the instructions, and then write the instruction that they think goes with the picture together as a class. The children make the box based on the pictures and then write their own instructions based on what they have made. As a plenary, the class can textmark the features from an example given.
