A selection of “Retrieval Activities” based around GCSE Studio French Module 8
For each 2 page spread in the chapter (including Point de Départ pages), there are 2 powerpoint slides which can be used to help students recap previously learned vocabulary and structures:
a) “Cinq par Jour” - a selection of 5 questions ranging from single word / short phrase translation to an open ended question for students to answer in French
b) A retrieval grid of 16 items for students to translate. Items are colour-coded and worth between 1 and 4 points depending on difficulty. An easy way to measure progress over time and incorporate an element of competition into lessons.
Ideal as no-prep starters or a “refresh your memory” interval in a double lesson!
Could also be used as a revision tool for students working remotely!

This player has now won the pen and can start translating. Player 1 has the dice and needs a 6 to steal the pen. The winner is the first person to correctly translate all the sentences.
NB: To make this activity “COVID-safe”, students should have a dice each and use their own pen.
Could equally be used for individual “remote-learning” translation practice - ideal revision for GCSE students who are isolating, or during school closures
