Direct and Inverse Proportion (Target Table)

(0)
Test your pupils' knowledge of direct and inverse proportion in a motivating and engaging way with this differentiated target table. The aim is to reach a target score, set by you, by answering questions from the table. The questions are differentiated, with different point values, so pupils can choose their own difficulty level. The easiest questions require students to set up an equation between two variables which are directly proportional. The hardest questions require pupils to set up an equation between x and y where y is inversely proportional to the cube of x (for example). In every question pupils will need to use their equation to find the value of y for a given value of x (or visa-versa). All the questions are purely algebraic but a contextual problem could be used as a nice plenary. This resource has been designed with the new 2017 GCSE curriculum in mind and is appropriate for a higher class. Although. it could also be used with a higher ability foundation class as direct and inverse proportion is now on the foundation specification. You'll get full instructions, answers and a thoughtfully differentiated resource - everything you need for a great lesson!
