This resource is a plan with all accompanying resources for teaching a lesson about Jesus feeding the 5000. It is aimed at 5-7 year olds and is highly interactive.
Included in the plan are lesson objectives, cross-curricular links and details of activities. The activities in this lesson include a discussion starter, a story-retelling task and plenary. I like leading assemblies that are interactive, engaging and relevant to the children’s lives. So this assembly involves discussions and chances for the children to be involved. This resource contains five old testament bible story comprehensions. They are suitable for using with year 1 or lower ability year 2.
There are three differentiated levels. There is a colour and black & white version of each level.
Each level contains five short pieces of text with words that can be sounded out. There are three trickier words which have pictures in the lower and middle levels to help children work out what they say.
Each passage is followed by 5 simple questions.
There are five different stories:

Adam and Eve
Noah’s Ark
Jonah and the Whale
Joseph
These are all in PDF file format.
There is also a PowerPoint included in the pack containing a slide for each text from the middle ability so that you can go through the comprehensions before the children complete them. This is an assembly to teach children about the fun Jewish holiday of Purim. It is suitable for ages 5-11.
It includes information on Judaism, the story of brave Queen Esther and details on how Jewish people celebrate Purim. It includes an anecdote relevant to the children’s experiences and finishes with a prayer/reflection. The pdf plan is 5 pages. This resource is a reading comprehension activity covering the part of the Christmas story when the Wise Men visit Jesus. I have adapted the bible story to create a descriptive passage for Grade 5 or 6. It is split into three differentiated levels.
Higher Ability
There is a reading booklet of 3 pages (1132 words), followed by 4 pages of questions (14 questions). The passage is very descriptive and includes some advanced vocabulary. The questions are varied and include finding the meaning of words and phrases, drawing inferences, describing characters, ordering the story, true or false questions and multiple choice tick questions.
Middle Ability
There is a reading booklet of 3 pages (965 words) followed by 4 pages of questions (14 questions). This passage is slightly shorter and simpler than the higher ability passage. The questions are varied and include finding the meaning of words and phrases, drawing inferences, describing characters, ordering the story, true or false questions and multiple choice tick questions.
Lower Ability
There is a reading booklet of 3 pages (837 words) followed by 4 pages of questions (12 questions.) This is the shortest, simplest passage, while still challenging the kids. The questions are varied and include finding the meaning of words and phrases, drawing inferences, describing characters, true or false questions and multiple choice tick questions.
There is also a set of answers for each level.
