I create a range of resources aimed at primary aged children; most frequently upper KS2. My passion is teaching mathematics, my specialist subject area. I have two aims: To create fun resources which inspire children To create mathematicians, not robots! I believe great teaching, specifically with mathematics, should aim to teach children the underlining methods which children can apply to take initiative of their own learning! Dr Doom data activity - pictogram and bar charts with one step and two step questions (Year 3)

In this activity children must use their knowledge of pictograms and bar charts to work out how much money Dr Doom raises and how much he spends. Children then have to answer one-step and two-step questions using this information. Finally, they must work out the amount of profit Dr Doom makes and draw this onto the bar chart. This resource pack contains an extensive 60 slide PowerPoint on time. It starts with the basic measurements of time that the children are required to know. It moves onto provide a scaffolded approach to telling the time on 12 and 24 hour clocks. First children look at minutes, then hours before finally putting them together to tell the time. It has been split up into four distinct sections each complete with a worksheet which means it is ideal for a weeks worth of work (I based 6 lessons around these resources). A differentiated homework task has also been included. Please rate my resource and provide feedback. Check out my shop! Thanks! https://www.tes.com/teaching-resources/shop/d_roberts1

Maths World Cup Challenge - Upper KS2 / Lower KS3

In this activity, children must help a Peruvian family - The Garcia’s travel to Saransk for Peru’s first game. Their job is to find the cheapest possible route. they have four possible flight options, various hotels and ways of getting to the game. Students will work in small groups and use their mathematical knowledge (number, fractions, percentages, problem solving, division, ratio etc) to find the best option for the Garcia’s. I used this in my Year 5 class and they LOVED IT! This resource comes complete with all the props (airplane tickets, hotel list etc), teacher instructions explaining the activity and a PowerPoint which shows children the correct method and mathmatically explains it. I hope your class enjoy the activity as much as mine, please leave feedback and check out my shop for similar resources!

Horse racing- themed challenge on perimeter, area and volume (Upper KS2 / Lower KS3)

(0)
This is a challenging activity where children must use their problem solving and reasoning skills to solve perimeter, area and volume questions. It worked exceptionally well with my Y5 class and the horse racing theme really inspired the children! This activity works best over a whole lesson and I like to put the children into mixed ability groups. Some of the questions are quite challenging (although it doesn’t deviate from the national curriculum in anyway) which makes it ideal for Y5 and 6 children; it could also be used in a lower KS3 setting as a fun way to recap on perimeter, area and volume. This pack includes the activity, a question sheet and a powerpoint which not only gives the correct answers but explains each step visually for the children - this makes it ideal for the children to self-assess and provide on-the-spot feedback to the whole class once the activity has been completed. I’d be grateful if you could review the resources and please see my shop for other resources: https://www.tes.com/teaching-resources/shop/d_roberts1
Column addition and subtraction Year 3 megabundle

Column addition and subtraction Year 3 megabundle

4 Resources
This mega-bundle contains two Power Points; one on column addition and one on column subtraction. Both use clear visuals to give children a relational understanding of both operations. Both Power Points fully cover bridging and exchanging. They are very engaging for the children as they must defeat Dr Doom and work out secret codes on the worksheets provided which correspond to the Power Points. Finally, two Dr Doom games have been thrown in which are both editable meaning they can constantly be reused. I guarantee the children will love these!

Geometry 1 Y3 - Unit of work - Polygons, classifying and producing 2-D and 3-D shapes & symmetry

This is a unit of work which contains a scaffolded PowerPoint, five worksheets and one activity to cover five sessions. I have produced a recommended lesson plan which clearly sequences each session . In addition to these resources you will also need mirrors, coloured pencils and materials to make 3-D models such as Polydron. The LO's are below which gives you an idea of the unit's sequence. Session 1 - I will be able to understand polygons are 2-D shapes with straight lines forming a circuit and identify these. Sessions 2 - I can follow instructions to draw different polygons and 2-D shapes. Session 3 - I will be able to identify symmetry within shapes. Session 4 - I can make my own 3-D shapes. Session 5 - I can classify 2-D and 3-D shapes based on their properties. Thank you for looking. Any feedback left would be greatly appreciated. Build Dr Doom's island! Year 3 & 4 Maths game using budgeting, perimeter and drawing shapes (B&W)

Can you engineer Dr Doom's new luxury research island? This is a great maths activity for lower KS2, most specifically Years 3 and 4. Children will receive a blank A3 island template. They are provided with a budget and information cards explaining how to build various buildings and luxury items. Be careful though because you have to stay within budget! This activity is a great way for children to learn and revise maths skills. Throughout the activity they must perform addition, subtraction, multiplication, draw different 2D shapes & polygons and work out the perimeter of shapes. It is complete with a PowerPoint which sets the scenario and clearly explains the activity. It also includes an example of a completed island. I designed and used this source for a parent-children maths cafe and it went down a treat! The children and parents had a great time and gave me tremendous feedback! I hope you enjoy it! Please leave me with any feedback and check out my shop following the link below. A coloured version of the resource is also available. https://www.tes.com/teaching-resources/shop/d_roberts1
