I've been teaching math since 2002. I love being with kids and helping them, but if I have to be honest, what I love the most is preparing lessons, collecting material, writing notes.

Are you looking for new activities to solve equations with variables on both sides? This Scoot game is a new way to engage your students with task cards. Students will solve multi-step equations with variables on both sides. Includes use of the distributive property, combining like terms, and integers. This product includes: 1 page instructions: how to solve equations with variables on both sides (with examples) 24 task cards answer sheet solutionsSCOOT: Put a question card on each desk. Give each student an answer sheet and a pencil. Have each student answer the question card on their desk and record their answer on their answer sheet. Make sure to remind them to answer the correct number. Give students x (I gave my students 2 minutes, but it’s up to you) minutes to answer each question. Then say “SCOOT”. When you say “scoot”, students will quickly stand up, leave their card at their desk and move to the next desk with the next number. They will then start working immediately on the next question. When all students are finished, check the answers as a group. Other ideas for using task cards in the classroom: EXIT SLIP: Have a student choose a card and let him solve the equation before leaving class. Copy onto colored card stock. Laminate them and use them year after year. Due to the Terms of Use of the font/clip artists and stock photo websites that I have purchased from, this product is not editable.
