Newspaper Writing Lesson Pack - Persuasive language

(0)
This is a adapted version of my Persuasive Leaflet Lesson. Instead this is all based around writing newspaper articles. It also has extra resources such as an article to annotate and another lesson where they put their new found knowledge into their own article. (Please see free resources for several newspaper templates, if needed) In this pack you will find two power point presentations that are both on revising persuasive language devices and then trying to find them in an article. (Please note this is an article I have got online and put into a newspaper article format with images)The only difference between the top two power points is one gives the examples and definitions to the class and the HA one asks the class questions to challenge them to remember. To go with this lesson there is the article and a hand-out sheet that the class can fill in when looking at the article. This gives them questions to answer about the article to help them identify the features and devices used in a persuasive article. After the class has completed this lesson, you will want to know if they now can apply their learnt skills to their own article. Please find attached the 'Practising Writing a Persuasive Newspaper Article Lesson' which will give them information (Short video online - not necessarily needed, but link available) and a success criteria on how to write an article. Please see free resources for newspaper templates. This really helped prepare my class for an assessment on newspaper articles. The engaging tops such as homework stress article and too many assessments information got them talking and interested.

Coraline and her two mothers

This lesson prepares students to analyse quotations comparing Coraine's two mothers from the book Coraline by Neil Gaiman. The analysis is done through the analogy of a house, as you look at the outside and explain the ideas generally, and then when you look in more detail inside the house you gain a further understanding of the language used by Neil Gaiman. There is a booklet resource that fits with the lesson to help students follow this ideas, as well as top tips.

Creating a charity

This is like a mini project as you will probably need three lessons to complete the task and students presentation. This lesson starts by asking the students questions that they have to think about when watching the news clips about refugees (internet access needed) The next slide tells the students what their task is and shows them other charities that are available to refugees at the moment. The final slide gives students a success criteria which they need to follow. This lesson aims to show students what being a refugee is a like and how we as a country could help.

This is the THE Halloween lesson of the year. In this pack you have a lesson plan with a step by step guide of what you need to do when in the lesson; a power point slide for the lesson; cut out resources and... a booklet to print which is where the students do all the work. (Booklet is file: Handout 1 and Handour 2 printed separately and then copied double sided) This lesson is planned for an hour and looks at persuasive devices with a Halloween theme. All slides are about Halloween and all the model texts focus on the upcoming festival. There is even a fun clip link to tell students the true historical story of Halloween - definitely worth a watch. I know what I'm using for my classes on the 31st October. Buy it now and use it for this last week in preparation or on the day of the BIG event!!! Happy Teaching!!!

This Shakespeare Research Booklet is a fantastic resource for introducing students into the world of Shakespeare. Every teacher struggles with how to teach the all important context section of the Shakespeare topic, and how to make it actually interesting. Well, here is the way to do it, and all you will need for one to two lessons is either a computer room or a Shakespeare book box from your school library. This booklet will teach the context for you, as it has key questions for the students to research, fun activities to complete, key quotations to understand, and a glossary the students can fill out.

Sentence Structure Lesson - Gothic Creative Writing

(0)
This sentence structure lesson is designed to show students how using a variety of sentences can create a certain effect on the reader. Here I have used 'The Boy' horror movie trailer to create my own descriptive piece of writing which focuses on building an image using descriptive language and a variation of sentences. Once students have read the description and discussed why this description is effective you move on to watching the trailer (access to the internet needed), and then get the students to continue the original description using the success criteria, trailer, their imagination, and the original descriptive piece of writing for aid.

Capitalism and Socialism worksheets of 'An Inspector Calls'

(0)
These two work sheets go with the information on Capitalism and Socialism I have uploaded to my free resources as the information is taken from the internet. What I got my students to do was to go through the texts and highlight the information that links to what happens in the play. I then got them to make links on the worksheets attached for each one using quotes to link the play and context more closely.

Of Mice and Men questions on Chapter 3 with answers

Struggling to teach basic comprehension or just need a competition/cover lesson with an extract and questions? Well, here it is! In order to help my class practice picking out quotations for one mark questions and then picking out two quotes and explaining them for a two mark question, I created this worksheet. It will take the class the whole lesson to get all the answers completely right. The extract I have used is from Of Mice and Men Chapter 3 when Carlson is persuading Candy to let him shot his dog. I have also attached the answers. This is a quick, easy and effective lesson just from one print out.

PEE and Assessment Preparation - A Christmas Carol

PEE preparation power point for A Christmas Carol. This Power point goes very well with 'The Little Book of PEE For A Christmas Carol' as it takes students through the question they will be answering and includes PEE structures, model paragraphs, and a mark scheme (Based on the new 1-9). However it also works as a standalone resource, as it goes through how to pick out key quotations in a text, and leaves the teacher room to analyse them with the students.
