A resource that begins with 2x2 digit multiplication, then moves on to 3x2 digit and finally 3x3 digit. At the end there are three greater depth questions involving finding missing numbers using reasoning skills and finally a self assessment traffic light. Children will use the final verse of 12 days of Christmas to answer mathematical word problems. Aimed at KS2, but could also be used with support in KS1.

Differentiated three ways. The children are given a brochure for Mercedes with differentiated products (e.g. leather seats, sat-nav etc.) and how much each item costs. Children must use their budget to customise their car with the things they would like. The aim is to get as close to their budget as possible, without going over it. Great activity to engage children, can be done in pairs or individually. Prices can be easily adapted and other items added or removed to further differentiate as needed. Makes a fantastic lesson and has been used with Ofsted/observations to great results!

A great resource for those spare five minutes at the end of a lesson or as a starter task. Children have a selection of playing cards, half with a sum (such as 2x3) and half with an answer (6). The children spread them out face down and select two at random. If they make a pair, they get to keep them. Player with the most number of cards wins. This pack contains all the times tables from 2-9. Best laminated if intending to use multiple times.

This is an excellent way to engage children in a reading/comprehension lesson. Each child has one of each card (can be laminated back to back to use again and again). The teacher (or another child) will make a claim about the text. For example: In this chapter, Harry and Ron dislike each other. The children must then take a minute to decide if this is true or not. If it IS true, the children will hold up their cards with the agreement side showing. If it IS NOT true, they will show the objection side. The teacher will then select a child at random (could use random name generator or lollipop sticks with names on etc.) to discuss which card they are showing and why. Opens up a great discussion as children will often disagree and can they debate their suggestions. Make it very clear to the children from the beginning that your decision MUST be backed up by evidence from the text and cannot be speculation. This has had great feedback in observations etc.

I have taken the Roz Wilson criteria for Year 5 and converted it into a child friendly version which the children can use for self or peer assessment. Please note: I do not own any copyright for the Roz Wilson criteria itself.

This is an IWB with multiple edited images. The children discuss in talk partners each image. What has been changed? Why? Does it look better or worse? The IWB poses some questions to the children to discuss. After the IWB, children will take their own photos of each other and edit them in different ways. Children can then print these and annotate with the changes made and their effectiveness. Some could be funny, like removing an arm, and others more serious.

This is a lesson to introduce the basic concept of the bar model. It covers addition and subtraction questions and includes both the powerpoint explaining what the bar model is and how to use it along with Higher (4 digit numbers), Middle (3 digit numbers) and Lower (2 digit numbers) ability questions and the matching answers for each.

Activity 4: Children to read the questions and answer ‘yes or no’ to each one. Children will then write basic sentences of their own using ‘ch’ words e.g. I like chips. Blank lines have the brave and scared monkey from kinetic letters, however this can be removed if not using.

You can use these cards to: make matching pairs together, turn them over and develop memory skills to see if they can remember where each animal is placed and make pairs, match the animal to the product e.g. lay out an egg shell, carton of milk etc. bury half the cards in a sand pit or sensory tray and get the children to dig and find their pair. hide one of each card around the classroom or playground and ask the children to find them, inspiration for artwork visit a farm and see what you can spot I also have these available in forest animals and vehicles.

This is an extract from the cat in the hat with 7 comprehension questions including literal retrieval, inference, multiple choice and reasoning. I am using this for a lower ability intervention group, however it would suit any KS1 group or lower ability KS2 group. I have included a title and image too.

This resource helps children understand the different symbols and objects of 6 different religions (buddhism, hinduism, islam, christianity, sikhism, judaism). The idea is to sort the objects into the different religions by cutting them out and creating 6 posters - one for each religion. It is a great activity for children to work together in groups or can be done independently. Children will have 6 objects from each religion and each object contains a brief, child friendly description to explain what the item is (without giving away which religion it belongs to!) A perfect activity for all of Key Stage 2 although would also be great for upper KS1 or Lower KS3 depending on the children. **ANSWERS INCLUDED ** *This would also be perfect for a comprehension activity in shared reading or literacy lessons as the children would have to read each sentence and using inference to decide where it belongs. *

This resource contains a beautiful copy of Maggie and the Dinosaur (a poem) and three differentiated comprehension question sets along with answers. The LA questions has a question underneath a specific line of text to make answering simple and show clear differentiation.

This is a comprehension aimed at Key Stage 2 to address the issue of cleanliness and personal hygiene. The text covers all areas of personal hygiene such as washing daily, washing your hair, brushing your teeth, washing hands etc. It also includes ten questions for the children to answer along with the correct answers for the teacher.
