This is a proposed programme of study designed for the last half term in the year to prepare students for GCSE study of the novel. It includes an independent study for homework, a writing assessment, reading assessment, speaking and listening task and a bridging project for over the summer holiday.

Guide to writing about the poem. I used this to guide students through their English poetry unit.

Introduces students to key passages and use of the framework in the opening section of the novel. The sessions may take a series of lessons.

Lessons based on Imtiaz Dharker's poem 'Blessings'. Can easily be differentiated. Works well with middle to lower sets and builds on empathy and creative writing skills as well as poetry analysis.

Lessons on 'The Man He Killed' by Thomas Hardy (following previous William Butler Yeats lessons). Students should be able to apply a simple frame of analysis.

Hope this is helpful - this was generally just a quick one lesson a week revision session with homework designed to help the middle sets revise the text. The revision sheets the students had were taken from a basic revision guide.

Again, linked with PSHE on body image, this week focuses on 'writing to argue&'. The &';debatabase' website is extremely useful for students to pick a topic to explore and it gives both the argument and the counter-argument to really push the G&T students.

Lessons encourage students to analyse a Shakespearean sonnet and apply a simple writing frame of analysis. Encourages them to think cratively about language and use of imagery.

A detailed lesson (or series of lessons depending on time restraints), where students explore a series of important extracts focusing on St John, Hannah and the rest of the Rivers family. Suggests background reading and possible examination questions for both section A and B.

Explores Pinter's Theatre of the Absurd, his style and language.

Unable to share the power point which goes with this lesson as found on the internet, however, the lessons are based on 'Presents from my Aunts in Pakistan' by Moniza Alvi and many power points and clips can be found easily. This encourages students to create a visual artistic representation of a section of the poem. Works really well with challenging students.

Series of lessons designed to link in with PSHE body image whilst also a) helping students with independent learning and research techniques, b) guiding them through the basics of information writing and c) making them aware of the problems of using the internet for research, so links in well to ICT across the curriculum.
