AQA Trilogy Chemistry Required Practical One Page Summary / Knowledge Organiser - Revision

(0)
I put this resource together to help my Y11’s to revise for the required practicals. It gives a basic outline of the method for each of the 6 Chemistry practicals in the new 9-1 Trilogy specification, along with the variables (where necessary), diagrams of equipment, some hints and tips and safety pointers that may be useful for the exams. I have also included links to other topics in the specification - there is no information on these but it gives students an indication of where these practicals may be linked to other topics. I have found this really useful to use alongside exam questions.

Chemical Change - AQA 9-1 GCSE (Foundation)

10 Resources
Contains everything you need to teach the Chemical Changes unit of the AQA specification, including the required practical for soluble salts and electrolysis. Designed for a foundation class but much will be suitable for higher tier too.

The Reactivity Series - AQA 9-1 GCSE

(0)
Introduction to the reactivity series. Encourages students to think about the practical observations that they would make. Differentiated task included - based on an exam question.
Soluble Salts - AQA 9-1 GCSE

Soluble Salts - AQA 9-1 GCSE

(0)
Covers how soluble salts are made and separated from solution. Key word recall, recap of separation techniques and products of metal + acid reaction.
Naming Soluble Salts - AQA 9-1 GCSE

Naming Soluble Salts - AQA 9-1 GCSE

(0)
Covers how salts are made and how they are named (chlorides, sulphates and nitrates). This lesson followed the soluble salts required practical. Lots of mini white board practice built in and differentiated task.
Electrolysis of Solution - AQA 9-1 GCSE

Electrolysis of Solution - AQA 9-1 GCSE

(0)
Designed for foundation class for new AQA 9-1 GCSE. This lesson follows on from the electrolysis required practical. Everything you need for the lesson is included here, rules for predicting products, AfL mini whiteboard activity and key word recap. Does not go into half equations at electrodes.

Choosing Elements for a Purpose (Y8)

(0)
Whole lesson with activities to encourage students to discuss ideas and use information to make decisions about the most appropriate choices for applications. Consideration of safety, cost, state etc.
Chemistry Revision - Introduction to Chemistry (Y8)

Chemistry Revision - Introduction to Chemistry (Y8)

(0)
Revision lesson following a unit introducing chemistry and the idea of chemical reactions. Atomic structure, using the periodic table, how we know a reaction is happening, choosing elements for a purpose and properties of elements. Differentiated task, key word activity, extensions and peer assessment. Please read the notes in the power point for directions of how the tasks are intended to be completed.
Water Purification (Using resources: Potable Water AQA 1-9)

Water Purification (Using resources: Potable Water AQA 1-9)

(0)
Water purification (Potable Water) for AQA 1-9. Power point and practical sheet. Students test the pH of 3 types of water (any available will do), and then evaporate off to see if any solid is left behind. The worksheet gives a full method plus space for students to record results and answer questions on the method (preparing for exams).
Life Cycles Assessment (AQA Chemistry - Using Resources)
lottie106lottie106

Life Cycles Assessment (AQA Chemistry - Using Resources)

(0)
Whole lesson for Life Cycles Assessment part of the using resources unit. Designed for AQA 1-9, new specification. Starter, exam question, information to collect and comparison needs to be made to give an opinion in the style of a 6 mark question. Information and pictures included so that the students can collect the information that they think they will need to answer the question. I have also put together a work sheet with the question to answer, the mark scheme, space for their notes and space to fully answer the question. I will then review the answers before the next lesson and set targets for improvement.
Atomic Structure

Atomic Structure

I used this as a revision lesson at the end of the unit, but would work equally well as a follow up lesson after teaching atomic structure. Key word activity, AfL, differentiated exam question, literacy task. Please see the notes in the power point for direction on how I carry out the key words activity. Levelled worksheets are shown on the hidden slide, I hand annotated these as can be seen on the pictures. My class found these very helpful.
Introduction to Chemistry: Elements and Reactions (LA or SEN)

Introduction to Chemistry: Elements and Reactions (LA or SEN)

(0)
Designed to introduce a low ability/SEN class to chemistry. Demo group 1 metals in water and potassium iodide + lead nitrate to spark interest. They then carry out their own investigations to find out about the properties of some chemicals and their reactivity. Worksheet included for them to record all their observations/results.
Atoms, Elements and Reactions
lottie106lottie106

Atoms, Elements and Reactions

(0)
Introduction to the structure of the atom, using the periodic table to find information and how we know that a chemical reaction has happened. I did three demos in this lesson showing three different ways we might know a reaction has happened and this generated lots of discussion. The worksheet gives the reactions for the demos and gives the class tasks for each reaction (e.g. identify the elements and compounds in the reaction).
Atomic Structure Bundle
lottie106lottie106

Atomic Structure Bundle

6 Resources
Covers most of the atomic structure unit of the AQA (1-9) specification + covalent and ionic bonding. You will just need to add in a lesson on the atomic model and electronic structure (I downloaded good lessons for these from tes) but everything else you need is here.
