Soluble Salts - AQA 9-1 GCSE

(0)
Covers how soluble salts are made and separated from solution. Key word recall, recap of separation techniques and products of metal + acid reaction.

Electrolysis of Solution - AQA 9-1 GCSE

(0)
Designed for foundation class for new AQA 9-1 GCSE. This lesson follows on from the electrolysis required practical. Everything you need for the lesson is included here, rules for predicting products, AfL mini whiteboard activity and key word recap. Does not go into half equations at electrodes.
Naming Soluble Salts - AQA 9-1 GCSE

Naming Soluble Salts - AQA 9-1 GCSE

(0)
Covers how salts are made and how they are named (chlorides, sulphates and nitrates). This lesson followed the soluble salts required practical. Lots of mini white board practice built in and differentiated task.

The Reactivity Series - AQA 9-1 GCSE

(0)
Introduction to the reactivity series. Encourages students to think about the practical observations that they would make. Differentiated task included - based on an exam question.
Reactions and Balancing Equations

Reactions and Balancing Equations

(0)
This lesson goes through what a reaction is, what is happening to the atoms in molecules when they react, why equations need to be balanced and how to balance them. At the end I use a variety of equations to practice, choose any that a suitable for the level of your group (lots available already on TES).
Catalysts

Catalysts

(0)
Designed for AQA trilogy specification (1-9). Discusses the importance of catalysts, why they may be used despite cost and evaluating the shape of catalysts. For demoI use: Sulphuric acid + zinc, suphuric acid + zinc + copper turnings and sulphuric acid + zinc + copper sulphate for comparisons.
Chemistry Paper 1 Revision (AQA New Specification 1-9)

Chemistry Paper 1 Revision (AQA New Specification 1-9)

(0)
A revision power point I have put together to use with foundation paper Y11 students for their final lesson before the paper 1 exam. I have tried to cover something from each topic (atomic structure, bonding, acids and alkalis, electrolysis, extracting metals and exo and endothermic reactions). This is designed to be basic to refresh memories and pick up 1 mark answers. Looks at making salts and energy changes required practicals as well a refresher on variables and mean.
Chemistry Paper 2 Revision (AQA 9-1 New Specification)

Chemistry Paper 2 Revision (AQA 9-1 New Specification)

(0)
A revision power point designed to be used for the final lesson before the paper 2 exam. Briefly covers the main points of collision theory and rates of reaction, fractional distillation, alkanes, alkenes, chromatography, gas tests, the Earth’s atmosphere, pollutants, drinking water and life cycle assessments. I have put this together with foundation students in mind but could easily be added to to cover the higher tier parts of the specification. I intent to print the slides out so that the students can annotate around them as I talk.
Atomic Structure Bundle

Atomic Structure Bundle

6 Resources
Covers most of the atomic structure unit of the AQA (1-9) specification + covalent and ionic bonding. You will just need to add in a lesson on the atomic model and electronic structure (I downloaded good lessons for these from tes) but everything else you need is here.
Covalent Bonding
lottie106lottie106

Covalent Bonding

(0)
Designed for AQA (1-9) specification. Covers the basics of covalent bonding, worked examples need to be completed on the whiteboard. Quick test leading to differentiated task.
Ionic Bonding
lottie106lottie106

Ionic Bonding

(0)
Designed for AQA (1-9) specification. Recap atomic and electronic structure. Activity to assess understanding which then leads into a differentiated task.
Elements, Atoms and Compounds
lottie106lottie106

Elements, Atoms and Compounds

(0)
Introduction to using the periodic table, atoms, elements, reactions and compounds. Worksheet to test use of the periodic table and a diagram of an atom to label. The demos could be anything to show different ways that we know a chemical reaction is happening and show elements and compounds reacting. I did demos of burning magnesium, acid + bicarb, lead nitrate + potassium iodide.
Group 7 Elements
lottie106lottie106

Group 7 Elements

(0)
Designed for AQA (1-9) specification. Includes activity and tasks. Put together for a lesson where no lab was available, so no practical included here.
Group 0 and 1 Elements
lottie106lottie106

Group 0 and 1 Elements

(0)
Designed for AQA (1-9) specification. I did the group 1metals an water demo, instructions not included but readily available.
Atomic Structure

Atomic Structure

I used this as a revision lesson at the end of the unit, but would work equally well as a follow up lesson after teaching atomic structure. Key word activity, AfL, differentiated exam question, literacy task. Please see the notes in the power point for direction on how I carry out the key words activity. Levelled worksheets are shown on the hidden slide, I hand annotated these as can be seen on the pictures. My class found these very helpful.
Introduction to Chemistry: Elements and Reactions (LA or SEN)
lottie106lottie106

Introduction to Chemistry: Elements and Reactions (LA or SEN)

(0)
Designed to introduce a low ability/SEN class to chemistry. Demo group 1 metals in water and potassium iodide + lead nitrate to spark interest. They then carry out their own investigations to find out about the properties of some chemicals and their reactivity. Worksheet included for them to record all their observations/results.
